The Play is the Thing

After almost a year’s worth of work, the show finally went on–and it was a crowdpleaser.  A group of creative and industrious representatives from The Moore Center’s Individual Day Services (IDS) program gathered together at the end of the summer to present their original play, Chaos.  The production was a conception all their own, as clients created the characters, wrote the lines,  designed the sets, chose the costumes and ultimately launched their performance in front of an audience of 50-60 people at South Main Street Church in Manchester, NH.

“We wanted to make a play,” said Bill, an IDS client and the President of the Client Council, a client-based leadership group.  “It was something we wanted to do and we thought it would be fun.”

The only elements Moore Center staff tackled were the marketing (spreading the word to other staff, family and friends) and organizing the after-party, i.e., an ice cream social following the production.  All in all, it was a project that emphasized independence, allowing our clients to accept the responsiblity of staging a event of considerable detail on their own.  This is a key goal in The Moore Center’s day program and reflective of the agency’s aim “to create opportunities for a good life.”

“They really loved the experience,” said IDS Manager Brittany Tumelaire.  “To see them organize and create was amazing.”
